Biography
Sophie Lenihan joined Zimmer, Citron & Clarke as a legal fellow in 2026. Previously, she served as a legal fellow with Public Justice's Students' Civil Rights Project, where she engaged in high-impact litigation to combat discrimination that students experience in schools. In that role, she authored an amicus brief addressing the damages available to sexual-assault survivors under Title IX and contributed to merits briefs in the Fifth and Sixth Circuits in cases advocating for greater protections for pregnant students.
During law school, she interned with the Educational Opportunities Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, where she helped draft a Statement of Interest challenging classroom censorship legislation that discriminated against LGBTQ+ students, and with Children’s Rights, where she worked on litigation seeking systemic reform in North Carolina’s foster care system.
Before law school, Sophie worked at a national education nonprofit dedicated to improving high school history instruction and civic engagement. She collaborated with teachers and students across the country to implement case method curricula in the classroom.
Sophie received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A in Psychology magna cum laude from Dartmouth College. After the fellowship, she will clerk for Judge Arianna J. Freeman on the Third Circuit and for Chief Judge Denise J. Casper on the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
